Richard Moon
 

Richard Moon has worked as a lawyer for 25 years. In 2014 he established his own firm. He is an experienced advocate.

Richard has considerable general litigation experience including civil, regulatory, and public law litigation.

He regularly advises professional services firms and professional bodies in relation to all aspects of their business.

Recent roles include:

  • Prosecuting before the Disciplinary Tribunal of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants, the New Zealand Lawyers and Conveyancers Disciplinary Tribunal and the New Zealand Registered Architects Board;

  • Acting for the New Zealand Institute of Valuers in proceedings concerning the interpretation of the Valuers Act 1948;

  • Acting for private clients in judicial review proceedings against the Commissioner of Crown Lands; and

  • Advising clients in relation to general civil litigation and dispute resolution.

Before he returned to New Zealand in 2006, Richard worked as a commercial litigation lawyer for global law firm Ashurst (then Blake Dawson Waldron) in Australia and specialist insurance practice Kennedys in Hong Kong.

During his time in Australia, Richard was part of the team acting for the liquidators of HIH Insurance in various recovery actions against professional advisers. In Hong Kong, Richard acted for Ernst & Young in its defence of allegations of audit negligence arising from the collapse of Semi Tech Corporation (including the businesses of Akai and Singer).

Richard has broad experience within the professions of law, accounting and engineering having previously served as General Counsel for KPMG New Zealand, General Counsel/General Manager, Regulation for the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants, and New Zealand Legal Counsel for engineering consultancy Aurecon.
